Prepare for Your Hire
Use this checklist before you collect the vehicle. For information about what to do once you have collected your vehicle see Help Whilst on Hire.
Before You Leave Home
- Check your confirmation email and scheduled collection time.
- Make sure every driver has completed the declaration and supplied the required documents.
- Bring your original photocard driving licence and any additional photo ID we have requested.
- Read the Rental Agreement Terms & Conditions.
- Review Insurance & Excesses so you understand your potential liability.
Check the Vehicle Before You Set Off
Review the vehicle inspection & check-out report and make sure you are satisfied that existing damage has been recorded. We recommend taking your own dated photographs of the vehicle before leaving the site.
If you notice anything that is not recorded, tell us before you drive away.
Familiarise Yourself with the Van
Before moving off, locate the essential controls including lights, hazard warning lights, wipers and fuel-filler information. If you are unsure about a control, ask us before leaving.
Know the Vehicle's Size and Capacity
Vans are larger than cars. Check the height, width, length and payload information on the vehicle page. Take particular care with car parks, low bridges, height barriers, narrow entrances and overhead obstacles.
Do not exceed the vehicle payload or any tail-lift capacity. If a specific dimension or load is critical, confirm it before loading.
Protect What You Are Carrying
Use clean dust sheets or suitable protective wrapping for furniture and other items. Wrap mattresses and soft furnishings to protect them during loading, transport and unloading.
Plan Your Route
Check whether your journey involves London road-user charges, tolls, restricted roads, or height restrictions. You are responsible for applicable road charges and restrictions during the hire.
Once you are on the road, keep your rental agreement accessible. For assistance during the hire see Help Whilst on Hire.
