Hiring a self-drive van can be a flexible way to move home when you are happy to pack, load and drive yourself. We offer three different load sizes, from a 6.2m³ SWB Transit to a 17.1m³ Luton with a 450kg tail lift.

Put stable, heavier items low down, spread weight sensibly and secure the load so it cannot move under braking or cornering. Do not exceed the payload of the vehicle. The loading guide gives more detail.
The Luton tail lift can make suitable heavy or bulky items easier to raise to floor level, but the lift has a 450kg capacity and must be used carefully on firm, level ground.
Standard daily Alco van hires include 200 miles per day and there is no deposit. Special offers can have different mileage allowances. Check the exact terms for your chosen hire before booking.
If your move is planned for a Friday evening through Monday morning, compare the weekend hire options with ordinary daily hire.
It depends on the actual volume and dimensions of your belongings. The 17.1m³ Luton is Alco's largest option, but a smaller move may fit into the 11.0m³ LWB or 6.2m³ SWB. Use the van size guide before booking.
The current Alco fleet page states that the 3.5-tonne Luton requires a full DVLA Category B licence, subject to Alco's normal age, driving-experience and insurance requirements.
